Shangxi Town is located in central Zhejiang Province, at the west gate of Yiwu, 10 kilometers from China Commodity City. It borders on Jindong District of Jinhua City from west and adjoins Pujiang Town and Lanxi Town from north, governing an area of 102.8 km², including 5 districts, Shangxi, Wudian, Huangshan, Xihua and Xiazhai, and 76 administrative villages and 2 neighborhood committees. The town covers an area of 8 km², with a resident population of 85 thousand and a floating population of more than 60 thousand. In 2011, the total industrial output value here reaches 8.46 billion yuan, an increase of 23.3% over the previous year; wherein above-scale enterprises accomplish 1.7 billion, an increase of 33.1% over the previous year. The town was awarded titles of honor one after one, such as National Environmental Beauty Town, Civilized Town of Zhejiang, Health Town of Zhejiang, Educational Advantage Town of Zhejiang, Physical Town of Zhejiang, etc. It was listed in the first batch of "Central Towns of Zhejiang" in 2007.

　　Shangxi is now a large agricultural town, which originated from two smaller towns and three villages in accordance with the "revoking, expanding and merging" project. In these years, the industrialization and urbanization of the town is promoted rapidly due to the implementation of the "industrial town" development strategy. Industry is developing powerfully. The town has an industry park occupying an area of 5.64 km², administering 1,676 enterprises aoming which 29 are above-scale enterprises. It is a manufacturing base that features metals, toys, plastics, decorations and chemical fibers. Besides, a new round of base construction is launched and the new base covers an area of 2 km².  Various industries as intelligent lock blank, biotechnology research and development, toy production and case production. Efficient ecological agriculture is developing rapidly. We have conducted agriculture industrialization and brought it into mass production and, in addition, developed sightseeing agriculture to create an ecological "shopping basket" for Yiwu people. The whole town has 22 agricultural villages, 14 leading agricultural enterprises, and 18 specialized-agricultural bases, covering an area of nearly 80 km² and forming a production base cluster and a cultivation cluster for eight distinguishing agricultural products such as red large-sized peaches, potatoes, tender gingers and cymbidium hybridum. Rural tourism here has obvious advantages. The town has two national heritage conservation units, Huangshan Octahedral Hall and Wuhan's Former Residence. Relying on the advantage of natural and cultural resources, the town forms a tourism pattern of "Cultural Huangshan, Leisure Xihua and Ecological Xiaohuang" and creates a famous brand of rural leisure tourism in Zhejiang. In 2010, a sight spot called "Shangxi's Ten-mile Peach Blossom Dock" has already become urban people's first choice for traveling, and up to now, it has received more than one million visitors. Urban and rural construction is promoted wholly. The town enjoys a complete set of functional service facilities, such as financial, tax, public security, industry and commerce, power supply, court, school and hospital. Traffic, planting and sewage facilities are perfectly set and the living environment has been greatly improved. A diversified mode of construction has been found for the project of New Village Construction. Currently, the village renovation project for all 76 administrative villages within the town has been accomplished. Besides, the reconstruction project of old villages has been started in 10 villages, 8 villages are striving for a relatively comfortable life from remote places, and 3 new resident areas are planed to be built.
